JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Payroll Administrator. As a non-profit organization, our mission is to make a positive impact on the community and provide essential services to individuals in need. The Payroll Administrator plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and accurate processing of payroll. The administrator will also work closely with the Vice President to improve payroll and retention policies and practices and stay abreast of changes as they come through the Unions and Collective Agreements.
EDUCATION/PREVIOUS WORK EXPERIENCE:
- University degree (or an equivalent combination of education and experience) in business administration or a related field with a focus on payroll administration. PCP designation strongly preferred.
- A minimum of two years’ experience in a hands on payroll administration role, reflecting increased responsibility. Experience gained in a non-profit sector and/or unionized environment is beneficial.
- PCP or pursuing a designated Payroll Program preferred.
- Familiarity with a unionized environment.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Organized and flexible self-starter who possesses strong analytical skills.
- Strong knowledge of current payroll practices
- Knowledge of provincial and federal legislation governing payroll and deductions
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office suite, scheduling, experience with Payworks and/or other payroll systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to review payroll systems, providing recommendations to align with current best practice models.
- Ability to conduct research into payroll & benefits issues, preparing reports and providing feedback to senior management as required.
- Able to establish strong working relationships with Management and Employees, displaying excellent interpersonal skills and adaptability to a wide variety of situations and personality types.
- Proven ability to communicate, both verbally and written, in an effective business manner across a broad range of stakeholders
- Ability to work and empathize with people who may have experienced abuse, poverty, grief and loss, oppression, violence, mental health challenges, addictions issues or maybe living with HIV/AIDS, other life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.
